San Elijo Lagoon Day Hike
Sunday, May 4th, 2008 at 10am
Meet at the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center
2710 Manchester Avenue in near Encinitas

San Elijo Lagoon is one of a few remaining coastal wetlands in San Diego County
and home to an exceptional number of animals and plants. It lies along the coast
between the cities of Solana Beach and Encinitas, extending inland to Rancho
Santa Fe. The lagoon is part of San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, a county and
state regional park of nearly 1,000 acres of diverse habitat including six plant
communities: coastal strand, salt marsh, brackish/freshwater marsh, riparian
scrub, coastal sage scrub and mixed chaparral. In the reserve you can access over
seven miles of trails via eight trailheads and encounter a wide variety of flora and
fauna.

Directions: Take the 5 Freeway North towards Encinitas, Exit Manchester Avenue.
Make a right onto Manchester Avenue, continue west for 0.7 miles then turn left
into the San Elijo Nature Center parking lot.

Palomar Mountain
Doane Pone and The Doane Valley Nature Trail
Sunday, May 18th, 2008 meet us at our campsite by 11am for a hike to Doane Pond
and the Doane Valley Nature Trail. Please wear appropriate clothing, bring plenty
of water and a sack lunch for the trail.
We are at the Cedar Grove Group
Campground, Site #2

The beautiful forest and mountain meadows of Palomar Mountain State Park are in
northern San Diego County on the west side of Palomar Mountain. Large pine, fir
and cedar trees make the park one of the few areas in southern California with a
Sierra Nevada-like atmosphere. Elevation within the park averages 5,000 feet above
sea level, making evenings cool even during the summer. A number of vista
points offer sweeping panoramic views both westerly toward the ocean and inland
toward the desert.

Call Daniel at (619) 405-7602 for more information.

Directions: The Park is located off Highway 76, up Highway S6, then left on
Highway S7 at the junction near the mountaintop. Cedar Grove campground is 1
mile from the main ranger station.
